An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Make the Honor Role

(Proverbs 12:9 KJV)  He that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.

Our egos make it very difficult to live with being “despised” (lightly esteemed NASB) (7034) and yet it is the better position to be in.  I don’t know about you but I tend to be skeptical when I hear people praised in public.  Pay a little more attention next time you hear someone read an award citation.  You might have a hard time not laughing.

It is probably good for us to be disregarded by out culture.  Think about the icons you hear about.  Would you really want to be in the same category as Madonna or Lady Gaga?  Would you really want people repeating your name if it was as silly as the ones chosen by rappers?   Would you want to on the same honor role as Joe Biden?

The point is we should be seeking the approval of almighty God, not our culture.  God does not feed egos, he nurtures souls.

So?  Listen to the whisper, or shout, of the Holy Spirit.  Spend time considering the message of the written word.  Take the sermon and seek to apply it.  The results are eternal.
