An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Basics Are Basic

(Proverbs 19:21 KJV)  There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.

We have many “devices” (plans NASB) (4284) but God’s principles don’t change.  We put great value on creativity and inventiveness.  In fact, one of the definitions of this word is “inventions.”  That is fine in its place but God puts his emphasis on the long haul, the things that make the inventions work.

How many times have you heard an interviewer ask a great coach what is his secret of success?  The answer I usually hear is “basics.”  It isn’t the Statue of Liberty or the double reverse that wins football games.  Basics win football games.  Solid blocking, tackling and team work.  The same is true of life.

So study the “counsel” (6098) of God.  It is the basics that get you through the silly inventions of the moment.
