An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Grip or Gripe

(Proverbs 15:16 KJV)  Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.

As we begin 2013 it seems that we are moving into a time of fragile or disastrous economics.  Businesses are cutting back.  Jobs are disappearing.  Taxes are scheduled to rise dramatically.  The cost of health insurance is already being pushed up even faster than before.

Don’t become a Pollyanna.  Plan and economize.  Do what is necessary but grab hold of a truth that comes from a nation scheduled to be divided, deported and persecuted:  Our hope is not in how much we have but in Whom we have.

Proverbs is not down on prosperity but it is big on priorities.

So?  Tighten your belt and lift up your eyes.  People have known joy and peace in the midst of hard times.  People have committed suicide in the midst of plenty.  Get a grip.
