An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Before the Fall

(Proverbs 13:10 KJV)  Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

“Pride” (presumption NASB) (2087) used to be the arena of the wealthy and highborn.  It has now taken over the underclass.  We see more and more welfare people with the “attitude” of self.  In fact it would seem that this sinful view of life is taking over all classes.

We are to be salt and light.  That means that we, as believers in Jesus Christ, cannot be seduced by the self-centered view of human nature that is being perpetuated by our culture.  Schools teach that we are fine, it is society that is corrupt.  There is a total denial of the fact that we are fallen creatures.  Our young are being taught to presume they are worthy.

So?  Consciously reject the values and standards of the world around you.  We are to be different.  We are called.  We are redeemed.  We are sanctified.  We are supposed to influence, not be influenced.

I always liked the KJV wording that says we are a "peculiar" people.

Grace and peace.
