An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

The Finale Awaits

(Proverbs 12:7 KJV)  The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.

In isolation this verse could be used to teach that there is no Hell, but that those who die without Jesus will be “no more” (369).  That is the problem with quoting verses in isolation.  We know that eternity exists for both the “wicked” (7563) and the “righteous” (6662).

But what does it mean to be “overthrown” (2015)?  This is a common word and the most frequent translation by far in both the KJV and NASB is “turned.”  This is a word of hope for those of us who are upright.  A Hitler or a Stalin comes along and does their damage.  To use an old saying, “This, too, shall pass.”  It will pass on this earth.  It will pass in eternity.

It may not look like it today but evil loses.

So?  Be patient.  Endure.  Grow.  The Book has been written.  The grand finale is already finished.  All that is left is the waiting.
