An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Plan B

(Proverbs 19:21 KJV)  There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.

We have all been forced to go to Plan B.  It is a part of life.

The KJV uses the word “devices” (4284) where the NASB uses “plans.”  This is a place where the KJV is a little harder to understand but is more accurate.  It makes us think.  For some people that is plan B.  The word means “thought, plan, device, purpose, invention.”  That is a lot of meaning in one word.

We are full of “plans” (4284).  That is okay in itself, God made us thinking creatures.  But we need to listen to the Holy Spirit and study so that the plans are ultimately based on the “counsel” (6098) of the Lord.  The picture that emerges through Proverbs is that wise leadership involves listening to wise people.  Ultimately, only the Holy Spirit can help us discern the wise from the foolish or even the righteous from the evil.

So?  Plan and devise, but only do it after you have read, prayed and listened.  Make that plan A and we will find we need plan B less often.

I think the problems we sometimes experience is from God's "Plan A" being OUR "Plan B."

Or, I guess, plan C. To use the words in a different context:

"O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,..."

Thanks for the words.

Grace and peace.
