An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

(Proverbs 21:21 KJV)  He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.

This brings to my mind the words of Jesus,
(Matthew 6:33 KJV)  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
There are two similar translations of the key verb.  The NASB uses “pursues” (7291) and the KJV, “followeth.”  The NASB only translates it as “follow” five times and the KJV uses “pursues” eighty times to nineteen.  Both have the idea of following but one implies more active attention than the other.

Either way, it is clear our steps are to be on the path of righteousness.  That assumes we want to achieve the goals expressed here:  “Life” (2425b), “righteousness” (6666), and “honor” (3519b).

So?  What are your goals.  If you are a believer, consider that a rhetorical question.  If you are not a believer would you like to see these things in your life?  Pursue Jesus.
