An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Exclusive Listing

(Proverbs 5:17 KJV)  Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.

Some things in life are not for sharing.  We get a steady diet of community.  “We are one in the bond of love” used to be a big chorus.  It has been replaced by other catch-phrases such as “sharing is caring.”

But some parts of our lives are not for sharing.  The context here regards sex and the marriage bed.  We are to be chase, monogamous and faithful.  “Strangers” (2114a) are people who are not in covenant with you.  This can be anyone who is not walking with Jesus.  On the personal level it refers to the unique relationship between husband and wife.

There is a reason why the church is called the Bride of Christ.  It reflects on the covenant that is established and the faithfulness that is expected.

So?  Save your best for the covenant.  That may be your spouse in sexual matters.  It should be God in all other areas.  He demands an exclusive.
