An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

The Honor of Grace

(Proverbs 11:16 KJV)  A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches.

The translations I have agree on the first part of this verse but have variety on the second part.  That is because “gracious” (2580) is one of the important words of the OT.  This is the favor that Noah found.  Theologically it means that undeserved movement of God that takes place not only in our salvation but in the daily maintenance that the Holy Spirit does.

In relationships it is a human trait that we can all learn.  It involves things like courtesy, kindness, patience, tact and so forth.  Here the emphasis is on women.  Other places it is applied across the board.  You can’t ignore the recommendation of this charming way of relating just because you are not a woman in the same way that the second part doesn’t mean that only men can attain riches.

So?  Live a life that produces “honor” (3519b).  We are called to make a difference and you will touch areas of the world the rest of us won’t have time to reach today.  Be salt and light.
