An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Spiritual Googling

(Proverbs 15:12 KJV)  A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.

Did you ever play your parents against each other?  Try to remember how it worked and perhaps how your kids make it work on you.  You want something.  It doesn’t matter what for our discussion today.  You just want something.  You know from experience how each parent is going to respond, so you carefully isolate the one who will give you the answer you want and pop the question.  Perhaps your parents worked together.  Then you go to your grandparents.

Some people live their lives that way.  They know what they want and they find an authority that agrees with them.  Is coffee good for you are does it damage your health?  Google it.  Somewhere out there you will find the answer that justifies your action.

Some people use their Bible that way.  They google the scripture.  If you ignore the context, you can get the Bible to say just about anything you want.  Remember the joke about the disciples driving a Honda?  They were in one Accord.  Honda dealers quote that scripture often.

So?  Are you a scoffer?  Do you only listen to that which gives you what you want?  If you are serious about your faith it is probably time to change.  Go for wisdom, not gratification.
