An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Time for Renewal

(Pro 7:24 KJV)  Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.

Sorry ladies.  If you get hung up on the cultural use of the masculine pronoun then you will need to deal with it here.  The “children” (1121) (sons NASB) of the KJV is actually the Hebrew word [ben] which means “son”.  The modern translations are more accurate in the basic meaning but the old KJV is more politically correct in using the word “children”.  In the plural, that is the understanding.

If you are sensitive, it is also Solomon who is speaking.  He is speaking as a father, for us a spiritual father, and he is saying, “Listen up.”  That is good advice for us in the Christmas season.  It is good to us to listen.  Start with your music.  Go ahead with the Christmas music but when the carols come up pay attention to the words.  There is a boatload of spiritual truth in the traditional songs of Christmas.  Our culture is working hard to dilute and exclude that truth but if you listen, it is still there.

So?  Let Christmas be a time of renewal.  The ingredients are there.  Listen wisely.
