An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Humble Steps

(Pro 16:19 KJV)  Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

Humility is one of those things that we praise but I am not sure we recognize it.  Here we have a division between those who are “humble” (8217) and those who are “proud” (1343).  I have a hard time understanding humility because it is not humble to claim you are humble.  So my mind ran to the love chapter.  In I Corinthians 13 it talks about the proud and gives some descriptions of attitudes and behaviors that seem to be set against them.  I will use the NASB for this.

(1Co 13:5 NAS77) does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered,

Humility would not act unbecomingly, well you can read the verse yourself.  These are things that can be measured and acted upon.  We can develop humility by working on our love.

So?  Never forget the resources we have in grace and the power of the Holy Spirit.  Add to that a personal commitment to be the person God wants you to be and you are moving toward humility.
