An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Our Future Is Here

(Pro 9:18 KJV)  But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.

It strikes me that this verse is in the present tense.  It speaks of eternal damnation in a place you can call “hell” (7585) (KJV) or “Sheol” (NASB).  One translation has “underworld” and another “nether-world”.  The destination is clear but look at the verb, “are”.  That means right now.  They have just been summoned and responded.  I think there is an indication that the devastation of hell begins while you are still living and breathing.

Just look around you at the people living in fear.  I have never understood the draw of drugs but again, look around you.  It seems to be everywhere.  People are desperate.  The answer is right in front of them but is rejected because they seem to like living in their self-embraced lostness.

So?  Those who know the joy of the Lord understand that we are just seeing a glimpse of glory at this point, but what a glimpse!  The same long term view is in the eyes, minds and hearts of those who reject the promise.  Until they decide to change there is little that can be done for them.
