An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Face Value

(Pro 26:25 KJV) When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart.

In our area we are looking at the election of local officials.  We have city counsels and school boards up for grabs.  I am relatively sure that the people who pay the money to put up posters are serious about being elected.  I am relatively sure that they are working hard to say the right things and convince people they should be chosen.  I would guess that there are a lot of similarities in the claims of the candidates while they may have totally opposed views in reality.

This is a warning.  In some times past you had little to go on besides the current statements and any intuition you might have.  Today we have access to the internet which at least gives us a chance to look into the stands taken in the past.

This is a warning.  We should be engaging our minds and memories about people.  Politicians we may have never heard from before, but in the church and communities we have people we know and should have had experience with.

So?  Never take the current sound bites as being authentic.  Depending on where you hear them and who is speaking, you might find certain sources helpful by assuming they are speaking the opposite of truth.  If you don’t have any discernment then find someone who does and listen to them even if it makes you uncomfortable.
