An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

A Hot Rod

(Pro 26:3 KJV) A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool's back.

You may have heard the saying, “Spare the rod and spoil the child”.  Those into Montessori will be glad to know that this is not in the Bible.  Those who are into the Bible will know that the sentiment is, even if the exact phrase is not  The Bible endorses corporal punishment.  The “rod” (7626) is not there just for looks.  It is to be used for discipline.

At the same time it is not to be overused.  The point is the discipline.  If you can enforce it using other methods, then feel free.  It is also clear that some people only learn through pain.  I know that kicking rocks teaches me to watch where I am walking and bumping my head teaches me to duck. 

So?  Who are you going to believe, Dr. Spock or God almighty?

If you remember, Spock had no children, that's what made him the "expert."

I am afraid I read Dobson instead of Spock but you sound spot on.
