An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Don’t Miss Out

(Proverbs 23:25 KJV)  Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.

Have you noticed the changing attitude toward having children?  If you are young enough you accept the current thinking as normal so you would have no idea what I am talking about.  It was assumed at one point that marriage and children were a normal part of life.  Now children are just another choice that we can make depending on our goals and resources.  When did it change?

My current theory is that the change was going on between the birthdays of my wife and I.  After we had been married and had children she was asking me about whether I had wanted children or not, as if it were an option.  It puzzled me because I had never though of having children as a goal.  Children were assumed to me.  Before my son was born I did not have a clue to the love of a father for his children but I knew that they were a part of life.  It would never have occurred to me that you would plan not to have them.  I believe that is the way God planned it.

So?  If you couldn’t have children my heart goes out to you.  If you deliberately did not have children I think you really missed something.  I say that even after I have worked in middle school for almost thirty years.  That is a miracle.

I'd always planned to have kids, but I ended up making the wrong decisions for that to be possible. It's my greatest regret in life. Then again, if they turned out as curmudgeonly as I, it might be for the best! - lol
