An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Take it or Leave It

(Proverbs 8:1 KJV)  Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?

“Wisdom” (2451) is active.  It will not wait; it will “call” (7121).  This indicates the way in which the Holy Spirit is active trying to convict people of sin and draw them toward the Savior.  It indicates the way in which the Holy Spirit will bring to mind truth when we are before those who accuse us.  This speaks of the Advocate who comes along side to help, the Paraclete.

It does not mean that everyone will hear, or, if they do hear, they will respond.  In the words of Jesus,
(Matthew 22:14 KJV)  For many are called, but few are chosen.
God wants all to be saved but in the interests of free will and genuine love He gives us the choice to respond and then makes His choice based on that.  People don’t always follow what they know to be best for them.  Watch the food we eat.  Note what we do for entertainment.  Hear all the excuses we come up with.

So?  Wisdom speaks.  It is available.  Do we respond?

Pumice, to hear some tell it, we have absolutely no choice in whether we're saved or not. We can fight it tooth and toenail and God will save us completely against our will. Interestingly enough, those same people will turn around and say that once God forces you to be saved, that you're then free to throw your salvation completely away. Always seemed to me that God wouldn't go to the effort of forcing it on you if He knew you were going to pitch it in the dump. I have a cousin that believes that. Strange!

It is almost like they think sin is a joke and does not really matter. Illogical, non-Biblical and very dangerous.
