An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

What Floats Your Bloat?

(Proverbs 23:2 KJV)  And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.

What does it take to drive you to self control and self discipline?  Here the focus is falling for the manipulation of unscrupulous leaders.  The immediate reference is to our willingness to dull our senses with food.

I had been warned for years about the dangers of overeating.  If you read any literature about health a large number of infirmities suffered by millions are caused by excess weight, obesity.  The doctors would always tell me to quit smoking, cut down on my alcohol consumption and lose some weight.  Since I didn’t drink or smoke I assumed that one out of three could not be that dangerous.  It took being sent to a doctor who had a specialty of diabetes to get me to smell the insulin.  I am thankful that the Lord finally got my attention.

So?  Don’t wait to be hit up side the head to wake up.  I know it is easy to say and hard to do.  Ask yourself if all the consequences of your lack of discipline are really worth sitting at the table.  God is patient and persistent but eventually He may let us struggle with the consequences of our frivolity.
