An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Deprivation by Sleep

(Proverbs 20:13 KJV)  Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.

There is a line that some comedian came up with that points out those who are not panicked are not paying attention.  I am not going to doom and gloom here, just pointing out there is a figurative aspect to this verse.  It amazes me how many people don’t pay attention to what is going on around them.  I saw a list of new taxes that have come into place this year on Gorges Grouse blog.  I am not sure where he got it but it was scary.  None of them were put in place by the due process of the budget but hidden in the Affordable Care Act.

How many other serious forces are in motion around us and we are not paying attention.  We are God’s people.  We trust but the trust is in God, not the government, insurance company or even the church.  Being awake may not save us from the wave coming but it might give us a chance to get into the life boats or put on our vests.

So?  Don’t get complacent.  Be alert.  It takes a bit more effort but it is part of being faithful.
