An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Use the On Ramp

(Proverbs 12:28 KJV)  In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death.

God can be so subtle.  He can also use a big club.  Here we have what seems a simple promise.  We have the picture of “life” (2425b) and the avoidance of “death” (4194).  Seems simple.  Seems clear.  Look at the two different ways of expressing the “way” (734) to get there.  This is not just a choice of synonyms.  The “pathway” (1870/5410a) is really a compound word.  The first part is a standard word for “road”.  If that was the only word here I could go for synonym, but it isn’t.

The second part of this word gets personal.  It implies that the road is actually traveled or has someone following it.  This is where we come in.  The road is there.  We have to follow it.  The promise is there.  We have to claim it.

So?  Get on the road.  This is a combination of grace and obedience.  It is that way of living that demonstrates we have “buy in”.  The road is empty unless we follow it.
