An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Low Hanging Fruit

(Proverbs 3:18 KJV)  She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.

So many of the Biblical promises are conditional.  Here we have the glorious promise of a “tree” (6086) of “life” (2425b).  What is not to like?  I want one.  Sign me up for the lifetime membership.  Start the automatic shipment.  Whoa there brother.  This is not open to automatic renewal.  Look at the condition.

You need to “take hold” (2388) of wisdom if you want the benefits of wisdom.  This word has many translations but they all have the idea of grabbing and holding on until the bitter end.  We see it in a familiar promise from Joshua.
(Joshua 1:9 KJV)  Have not I commanded thee? Be strong (2388) and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
You are all familiar with the commercial that says “Got milk?” and all its copy cats.  The question is mute if you don’t bother to open the carton and pour it out.

So?  The fruit of the tree of life is dangling in reach.  Grab hold and hang on for the ride.
