An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

They Say

(Proverbs 1:16 KJV)  For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

Who are the “their” of this verse?  Verse 15 talks about “them.”  In verse 13 they are “we.”  In verse 11 it is “they.”  Only in verse 10 do we get the revelation that these are the sinners around us.

We need to always be careful when “they” say anything.  You have had the experience where someone will say that “they say that....”  Sometimes the variation is “everyone knows that....”  It may even be true that “everyone knows.”  They are still wrong.

We do not base our lives on hearsay or common culture.  Well, we shouldn’t.  Too often we do.  As followers of the One who said He was the “Way, truth and the life” we should be a little more careful what we accept as true.

So?  You should be out of step with the world around you.  Often you should be out of step with people in the church.  Too often their values and priorities are based on sin and rejection of the holy.  We are called to be different.  Think about that as we move into a time where even the pagans celebrate Christmas.
