An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Carrying the Torch

(Proverbs 13:17 KJV)  A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.

The Hebrew word “messenger” (4397) is often translated that way but the most frequent translation in both the NASB and KJV is “angel.”  Again we see that the meat is in the modifier.  What kind of angel are we talking about?  “Wicked” (7563).  It isn’t even a matter of the message.  It is about the character of the person carrying it.

In Proverbs context is not as important as other books but we can look at the context to get insights into what it means to be a “wicked angel.”  We can do it by contrasts.  Look at all the words that are used to describe the person who is not a wicked angel:  Turning aside,  prudence and disciplined come to our eyes.

So?  The adjective is decided by the choices we make.  We can carry a torch but are we an arsonist or the man who lights the cooking fire?  Pay attention to the little choices you make today.
