An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Red Light Districts

(Proverbs 9:15 KJV)  To call passengers who go right on their ways:

In this verse it is the “foolish woman” of verse 13 who is doing the calling.  I don’t see any indication that this woman is familiar with those passing by.  In fact it almost seems that this is a common form of prostitution.

When I visited Europe during my college years, one of the places that I visited was the red light district of Amsterdam.  Even then it seems prostitution was legal there.  Our small group of Christian college youth had never seen anything like this before.  Women standing in door ways and leaning out of display windows soliciting.  I don’t think any of us were even close to being tempted but it was an eye opener.

We would have been better off not walking through but we saw the reality of our world first hand.

So?  Keep your eyes open.  Be smarter than we were and avoid life’s red light districts.  They come in many shapes and sizes.  Some problems we don’t need.
