An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Active or Passive

(Proverbs 17:4 KJV)  A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.

The average person “giveth heed” (listens NASB) (7181) to what they want and hears what he expects.  Most of us would accept that we are in the high part of the bell curve, we are not the best or the worst, but somewhere in between.  So I guess that truth applies to us.

How much more is it true of the “wicked doer” (evildoer NASB) (7489a) and the “liar” (8267)?  You can probably multiply the effect.  They are active in seeking falsehood.  We are passive.  Too often the results end up the same.

So?  Just as some are active in pursuing evil, we need to be consciously following the paths of righteousness.  There are many more moral choices to be made than we want to pay attention to.  Wake up and smell the aroma of holiness.  Be part of that perfume.
