An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Generic Parenting

(Proverbs 22:6 KJV) Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Have we done a good job raising our children?  Have we walked the walk and been living examples?  It is a question that must wait for an answer.  We must wait to see if they follow Jesus or “depart” (5493) from the way.

One crucial testing point is the day they leave home.  They may go off to college to live in a dorm, join the military, move away for a job.  That is the time to hold your breath and pray harder than ever.  That is the day they begin making decisions without you looking over their shoulder.

It doesn’t end their.  Mine are around 30 years old and it looks good, but I am not resting on my laurels.

So?  Do your best, but make sure it really is your best.  Too often we try to get by with a generic when the name brand is really available.  Don’t skimp on the next generation.
