An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Quantity vs Quality

(Proverbs 14:28 KJV)  In the multitude of people is the king's honour: but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.

What is the problem here?  Is this a praise of the mega-church in the next city?  Actually the problem is not in the “multitude” (7230) but in having a “want" (dearth NASB) (657).  It is a slightly different slant, but an important one.  Big can work but is not necessary.

A lot is not the same as enough.  One concept focuses on numbers, the other on need.  One is quantity; the other, quality.

God does not play a numbers game.  Remember that Jesus warned us,
(Matthew 7:13-14 KJV)  Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:  Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
So?  I don’t know about you but I want to get through that gate.  I won’t get there by following the crowd, looking for the biggest church or fitting in.  Follow Jesus, not fashion.
