An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Wicked Sacrifice

(Proverbs 21:27 KJV)  The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind?

A “sacrifice” (2077) can either bring atonement or it can be an “abomination” (8441).  If you doubt that then do a little searching in Leviticus.  You come up with verses like this:
(Leviticus 4:26 KJV)  And he shall burn all his fat upon the altar, as the fat of the sacrifice of peace offerings: and the priest shall make an atonement for him as concerning his sin, and it shall be forgiven him.
Some people say that the Old Testament system of sacrifice did not forgive sin.  Really?  Maybe you need to read it again.
(Leviticus 4:26 KJV)  And he shall burn all his fat upon the altar, as the fat of the sacrifice of peace offerings: and the priest shall make an atonement for him as concerning his sin, and it shall be forgiven him.
On the other hand, it can work the other way.  Phoney or casual sacrifice can bring the opposite results.  It can get us in deeper water.  It can turn up the heat.  It can make us an abomination.

So?  Does God expect the equivalent of sacrifice from believers?  I think so but it all becomes meaningless if we have not taken care of the business of salvation first.  Salvation is available.  Seek it, then get into the business of giving and doing.

Read this today myself. I'm still doing your verse a day thing with Proverbs, except I add Psalms to it. I read the rest of Psalms when I can.

It would take five months to get through Psalms and would be worth it. Then you have the difference in length between 117 and 119. I really enjoy Saturday mornings when I can follow cross references and follow thoughts.

What a journey and it beats the silly news stories you were commenting on in your blog this morning. People need to get an anchor and a life.

Grace and peace.
