An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

The Weird Church

(Proverbs 16:25 KJV)  There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

We have all heard the church criticized because we withdraw into our little communities.  We all know little, ingrown churches.  This verse makes me think about that a little.  Maybe those churches are small and ingrown because they have been rejected by the world, not because they drove the world away.

The church I am currently attending would fit into the category of small, ingrown and full of misfits.  It is mostly old people with strong opinions.  It would be a stereotype of “why the church isn’t growing.”  Yet if you get to know them they are one of the most loving, caring, helping people I have ever been around.  If I were in town and needed help I would call them and someone would respond.  I have heard it from people who have been helped.

I would offer the suggestion that one reason they are not growing is because too many of them have refused to conform to the world and follow the way of the world.

Just a thought.

So?  Things are not always what they seem.  What is the way of Jesus in the choices you must make today?
