An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Hell No

(Pro 23:14 KJV)  Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.

Some people question whether the Jews of the Old Testament believed in an afterlife.  Some say yes and quote certain scriptures.  Others say no and quote other scriptures.  Some explain the “Sheol” (7585) (hell KJV) as a shadowy place where souls drift around in a kind of limbo.  They claim it is the only choice.  This verse seems to indicate there is an option.

This says that your “soul” (5315) [nephesh] can be “delivered" (rescued NASB) (5337).

So?  It would seem that David believed that we did not have to go to hell.  Sounds like a message of hope.
