An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Good Job

(Pro 25:27 KJV)  It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.

Did you notice that  “glory” (3519b) is used twice in one phrase?  That tells us two things.  First, something that some don’t like to admit, there is such a thing as being worthy of approval.  Maybe not praise but certainly approval.  Second, we should not be pursuing such praise.

This is a hard balance to keep.  There are numerous places where we are reminded not to toot our own horn or place ourselves in the driver’s seat.  We often are in too much of a hurry when it comes to such things.

So?  Don’t develop a false modesty.  It isn’t really necessary.  Accept the good things people say but don’t let it go to your head.  I think we all want to hear “Well done, though good and faithful servant” more than deceitful praise of man.
