An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Violent Understanding

(Pro 13:2 KJV)  A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

Our modern pagan culture has a lot of ideas that are warping our society.  One of those is the warping put on the concept of “violence” (2555).  The basic meaning of our English word is the use of force and destruction.  It is another one of those words that relies on its context.  The Hebrew word seems to include the idea of the force being for evil purposes.  There is a difference.  The difference is the difference between the rule of law exercised in countries based on Christian principles and the rule by fiat in tyrannical dictatorships.  Both have police but only one requires them to use restraint.  Both have courts but only one seeks justice.

So?  Don’t let the pagan culture lull you to sleep on basic truth and proper expectations of society.  God is a God of peace.  At the same time He supports the place of the government to carry the sword to punish evil and we have the final battles of prophecy.
