An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Unfriendly Persuasion

(Proverbs 28:10 KJV)  Whoso causeth the righteous to go astray in an evil way, he shall fall himself into his own pit: but the upright shall have good things in possession.

Today my mind is focusing on the phrase “in an evil (7451b) way (1870)".  Does this refer to the method or the direction.  As I look at the various translations available to me they are either vague or say that the believer is being tricked into doing things that are evil.  For us this is always a danger.  Other places in Proverbs it makes it clear that there are people who have no greater joy than to drag us down.  When you are hanging around with your “friends” they will always be encouraging you to cave.  It will seem good natured but underneath there is always the desire to bring you down to their level.

The good news is at the end of the verse.  In spite of the pressure and temptation we can stay on the straight and narrow.  It could also be interpreted that repentance is always possible.  Think of Peter and Judas.  Both sinned against the Lord.  One repented.  One died in his sin.

So?  Be alert to people trying to drag you down.  If you buckle you still have the choice of the path of life or the path of death.  I find that encouraging.
