An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Thanksgiving All Over Again

(Proverbs 31:29 KJV)  Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.

There is nothing wrong with legitimate praise.  That is what is being offered here.  The preceding verses have given ample evidence and examples.  This is a summary.  Sometimes praise is deserved and should be accepted with humility but not denial.

We have just celebrated Mothers’ Day.  Americans spend millions of dollars on cards and candy.  How much of what was said reflected reality and how much was just nonsense.  Some send expensive gifts out of guilt because they have ignored their mothers all year.  Some go through the motions to avoid criticism.  And then there are those who are simply taking the day to pause and extend their appreciation as a special moment.  It should be like Thanksgiving, just an extension of what is normal daily behavior.

So?  Look for legitimate reasons to praise people.  Be aware of the multitude of reasons to praise God.  Celebrate daily.  If you can’t find anything else to rejoice in remember the cross, resurrection and the grace of God.
