An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Some Choice

(Proverbs 4:27 KJV)  Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.

I often laugh when people tell me I have a choice.  You have been there.  Someone in authority asks you which do yo prefer.  Usually the alternatives are both bad.  My answer is, “You are asking me if I want to be shot or hung.”  That is bad enough when a change is forced on you at work but it is the seed of destruction when it chops away at our integrity or moral condition.

One example might be staying in a motel with some kind of cable access.  You have 30 channels to choose from.  None of them are worth watching.  You tend to forget that you have the additional choice of reading a book.  The book might also keep you from watching something that would damage your sensitivity to spiritual things.

So?  In those cases we need to avoid the choices forced on us.  At work we might have no way that is good but in our culture we need to take the third route, the one that avoids “evil” (7451b).  Remember the promise,
(1 Corinthians 10:13 KJV)  There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
