An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Mouth Life

(Proverbs 13:3 KJV)  He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

I casually did a search on “mouth” (6310) and was a bit startled.  The Hebrew word is used  55 times just in Proverbs.  The English word come up 65 times in the New Testament.  I have been thinking about themes in Proverbs and I would have come up with gossip but it would have never occurred to me that the simple reference to the mouth would be so common.

We overlook the evil and good that can be done with our mouth.  In addition to things like gossip and food intake it is also a major highway of germs and disease.  Here it is tied to “life” (5315).

So?  A small part of our body.  A big contributor to our destiny.  Worthy of some thought, I would say.
