An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Club Membership

(Proverbs 13:20 KJV)  He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

I think it was Groucho Marx who said, “I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member.”  I think I want to walk with wise men but what makes me think that wise men will be willing to walk with me?  Perhaps the answer to that is found in another part of Proverbs,
(Proverbs 17:28 KJV)  Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.
If I want to be accepted by those who are truly wise then I need to keep my mouth shut.  That means listening instead of talking.  That is very hard for me to do because I have so many opinions.

So?  I need to work on not sharing every bit of “wisdom” that comes to me.  That will probably be more of a blessing for those around me than for me.
