An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

(Proverbs 4:14 KJV)  Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.

You may not recognize this as a command, but it is.  It is not a direction given when you are in the midst of sin.  It is a command before you start down that “path” (734).  It is much easier to do the right thing when you don’t start doing the wrong thing.

The key word is “not” (408).  It isn’t a word meaning “try” or “sometimes”, it is a word that means “no”.

How do you define a “wicked” (7563) “path” (734)?  Did you really ask that?  Some things are so obvious that only someone who disagrees with me on politics would not see them.  Start with the law.  Read over the Ten Commandments and think about all the applications of adultery, lies and covetousness.  We are not saved by the law but it is there to make it crystal clear what is clearly evil.

So?  When you play Monopoly you can change a few rules if everyone agrees.  In the game of living in righteousness that doesn’t work.  Think about it when you dress, drive and flirt.  I am sure you can find an application.
