An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Moderation at Rest

(Proverbs 6:10 KJV)  Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

This is not condemning “sleep” (8142) but the tendency to take a nap when there is work to be done.  It’s not about sleep.  It’s not about “rest” (7901).  It’s about laziness.

Sin is often the misuse of blessings God has given us.  Knowing become adultery.  Appetite become gluttony.  Rest becomes sloth.  Keep in mind that God was the one who told us to take the seventh day off.  This was the Sabbath.
(Hebrews 4:9 KJV)  There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
The Greek word here transliterates into a form of “sabbath”.  God is not only in favor of taking a break, He demands it, but not at the expense of being productive.

So?  Take your day off.  You need it.  God made you that way.  But beware of the tendency to eat the whole bag of chips when you only need a few.
