An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Just Mouth

(Proverbs 10:31 KJV)  The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.

The word mouth is emphasized in Proverbs.  Of the 294 times it is used in the OT, 142 are in the Wisdom Literature.  Proverbs uses it 46 times.  That doesn’t include the times the Hebrew word is translated other ways.

It would seem that God is concerned about our mouths and how we use them.

If you look through the way the word and its synonyms are used you find that they are words that in themselves are neutral.  Their moral value comes from how they are used.  We can bless with our mouth, or curse.  We can speak wisdom, or lies.  It is a reminder of what Jesus said,
(Matthew 15:18 KJV)  But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
So?  What does your mouth show you to be?  Listen to yourself talk.  Ask God to change your heart so you can have a righteous mouth.
