An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

The Safety of Sufficient Salt

(Proverbs 24:15 KJV)  Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place:

This is a warning to cultures as much as individuals.  It is dangerous to mess with God’s people.  It would not be much of a stretch of the imagination to think of “dwelling” (5116a) and “resting place” (7258) as referring to the churches as well as the homes of the “righteous” (6662).

Most people would agree that the position of the United States is declining in the world.  Things are not well at home.  Is it just a coincidence that our culture is attacking the church and trying to muzzle the voice of the gospel in the public square?  Is the decline in liberty a result of the quiet suppression of God’s people?

So?  Perhaps we owe it to our society and our unbelieving friends to be more vocal in pressing our positions as Christians.  They may not see a connection but we should, between having enough salt in the culture and being devoid of Christian values.  If you won’t take a stand to benefit yourself and yours, do it for them.
