An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Square Pegs

(Proverbs 13:2 KJV)  A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

Once again the KJV does a better job.  It is the “soul” (5315) of the unredeemed that is the problem, not the “desire” (NASB).  The word for soul is usually translated that way in both translations with “life” coming in second.  There are many other minor translations.

This is a statement that reflects on the nature of man before grace changes him.  Our natural disposition is to be “transgressors" (treacherous NASB) (898).  This is a major character flaw.  It leads to lies, deception, selfishness and “violence” (2555).  This is why we need a savior.  Our modern culture rejects this condition and rejects the Savior.  You need to keep that in mind when you catch up on the news or read.  The reporters and authors come from a mindset that is opposed to the God of the Bible and our need for Him.

So?  Realize that we do not fit.  We are different.  We acknowledge sin.  We admit a need for salvation.  We turn to God for the solutions.  We are square pegs in round holes.
