An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

In not On

(Proverbs 9:10 KJV)  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

Notice that fear of the Lord is just the “beginning” (8462) of “wisdom” (2451).  Fear is a tool of manipulation if used exclusively or in excess.  It is not enough to “fear” (3374).  We are told to go the next step.  If we do not keep going then the fear turns into a handicap instead of a boost.

Think of fear being like a car.  It isn’t enough to have a car.  You need to know how to drive.  You need to know how to check the oil and put in the gas.  You need to know where you want to go.  Living on fear is like having a car in the driveway with an empty tank, flat tires and a dead battery.

So?  Understand the difference between in and on.  Let our attitude toward God guide us through the day and determine our attitudes for life.  Wisdom waits.
