An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

That’s Rich

(Proverbs 11:4 KJV)  Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.

What is this about “riches” (1952) that don’t “profit” (3276)?  Isn’t that part of the definition of being rich?  We need to redefine our definition of what that means.

Being wealthy is not automatically condemned by God.  Some people are confused at that because of all the class warfare being pushed in our culture.  Some are befuddled because the church often adopts the values of the social left that enjoys blaming the “greedy rich” for all the problems of our world.  It is not a matter of your net worth but two other factors:  How you gained the wealth and your attitude towards it.

So?  Are you an American?  If so, you are rich by the standards of the world, even if you are poor by American standards.  It may be time to examine how much effort we are putting into gaining “riches” so we can get more “things.”  It may be time to stop and smell the spiritual roses and examine the priorities that push us.  Here’s hoping you have a rich day.
