An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Outsourcing

(Proverbs 14:27 KJV)  The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

In studying this verse I noticed the phrase “fountain of life”.  The NASB uses this phrase five times, all in Proverbs.  There is an interesting parallel phrase in Jeremiah,
(Jeremiah 2:13 KJV)  For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.
The promise here is that God is an unpolluted source.  He is clean and refreshing.  He is life giving and not toxic to the righteous.  Have you ever come across an old pipe or water tank?  What kind of water do they hold?  Have you ever been tempted to drink from a puddle in the middle of a parking lot?   I doubt it, you know the results.

So?  Why are you tempted to go to polluted sources for the water of life?  Why do we so often go to questionable sources for answers?  The fountain of life waits to give.  Seek Him as a habit.
