An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Got Phobias?

(Proverbs 14:26 KJV)  In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

Here again we see mention of the fear of the Lord.  “Fear” (3374) is presented as a benefit, a producer of “strong” (5797) “confidence” (4009).

Has it broken through to you yet?  The standards and patterns of the Bible are different from your culture.  We have abandoned simple things like a healthy and balanced understanding of fear because our educational system, led by psychologists and sociologists, has told us that fear is a bad thing.  Teachers and administrators lead the way and are followed by parents.  No one wants to be the adult laying down the law.  Everyone wants to be buddies with the children.  On the surface the kids like it but underneath is leads to real insecurity.

We act like phobias have no validity.  There are things to fear and it is healthy to relate to those things with a respect for their power.

So?  Fear God.  Love God.  You can’t really love Him without fearing Him.  If you fear Him and love Him the fear becomes an empowering source of security.
