An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Chicken Little One

(Proverbs 10:25 KJV)  As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.

Every experience in life has the potential to be a “whirlwind” (5492a).  When I think of a whirlwind I think of a little swirling of dust that might throw around a bit of trash.  The little dust devil that I think of has a lot of big brothers.  This could be the tornado that we have seen rip through towns destroying and killing indiscriminately.  It could be the Hurricane that comes ashore on the gulf, devastating entire regions.

This verse would assume that there are things you can do to prepare for the Katrina’s of life.  Without casting stones or naming names, there were simple things that could have kept you safe in New Orleans.  First, don’t build your house below sea level.  That has a lot of applications in our everyday life.  Sometimes you can’t control where you live but often you can.  We need to take a serious look at where we set up shop for the various parts of our lives.  The wicked are comfortable with situations that the righteous will reject.

So?  Examine the areas that you can control your choices.  Are you in a haven or Tornado Alley?  Can you change it?  Why haven’t you?
