An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Be a Friend

(Proverbs 31:12 KJV)  She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

Somehow the post I had planned for June 14 was posted on the 12.  Since June does not have 31 days I decided to post something from that day to take up the gap.

Who are the significant people in your life?  Here it is talking about a husband and wife.  You might also have children or parents.  Friends or co-workers might be key.  We are do “good” (2896b) to these people.

We are talking about showing the love of Christ.  One of the interesting verses that I think shows an important type of love is,
(Philippians 2:3-4 NASB)  Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.
Remember that doing good does not always mean doing what is expected or what is popular.  Often it means being the bad guy because you love someone enough to do the hard job.

In this case, doing what the person wants would be “evil” (7451b).  Remember another verse from Proverbs,
(Proverbs 27:6 KJV)  Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
So?  Be a friend.  Care enough to supply what is needed, not just what is wanted.
