An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

I Can Live with That

(Psa 119:93 KJV)  I will never forget thy precepts: for with them thou hast quickened me.

(Proverbs 29 also read)

This section of the 119th Psalm is full of praise for the law.  I sometimes wonder if Paul ever read the Old Testament in his studies because he is so down on the law.  I like to check the marginal comments in the NASB Reference addition.  Today it had what I considered a great insight.  For “revived” (2421a) it said “or kept me alive.”

This goes along with my belief that the law was generally written for our benefit, not to stifle us.  I believe that there is a reason for every law.  It might be physical health or mental health.  It could have some scientific principle behind it, but the law is there to “keep me alive.”

So?  I will continue to rejoice in the way the law gives guidance and rejoice even more that, as Paul points out, it is grace that saves us and the blood of Jesus that washes away our sin.
