An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Enough

(Pro 11:14 KJV) Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.

How many is an “abundance” (7230)?  Sometimes all we need it one and that is the danger being expressed here.  Often we define wisdom as agreeing with us.  If we have one person that we can trust to tell us we are right then we stop there.  Counseling done.  It might be a second source is sought.  Children do this when mom says no.  They go to dad.  If that doesn’t work there is always grandma.  I don’t think that is what this is talking about.

The KJV likes “multitude” for a translation.  The idea is that we seek a broad scope of input.  And consider your sources.  If you are listening to the radio and a godless pagan gets onto something you are concerned about, his opinion might not be as well balanced as you might like.

So?  Start with the word.  Some things are simple.  Go to the body of Christ.  Above all listen to what the Holy Spirit has to say to you.
